So its that time of year guys, the Christmas parties are just around the corner and let me guess, you have no idea what to wear?
A lot of people dread fashion this time of year due to the fact that, everything, everywhere consists of glitter, sequins and sparkle. If you’re not confident enough to wear something that’s going to draw attention to yourself then this time of year probably won’t be your friend. But in all honesty it doesn’t have to be that way! There’s so many beautiful party dresses or outfits out there, and you really could let the bell go to the ball.
There’s bound to be a number of different people that attend your Christmas Parties. Like the works Christmas party for example, it’s a party with people there you don’t know so well, or people you wouldn’t usually surround yourself with. So for a lot of people it throws up some confidence and self-doubt issues. And all of this is besides the stress of what to wear. I work in retail and it has a really high-turnover for staff and so I see different people year in year out. So for me there’s always that niggle of self-doubt because I want to make a good first impression. There really is something to be said about dolling yourself up and making yourself look good. It’s like putting your war paint on and gearing yourself up ready for battle and for me it honestly does boost my confidence and helps me to become that social butterfly.
Whether you’re the curvier one of the group or not it doesn’t mean you should let yourself fade into the background. This time of year is literally your time to shine. So get to know your shape and your style, embrace your curves and flourish my darlings, flourish.
There are so many brands at the moment that are rocking it for us curvier girls, so you really do have a lot of choice in the matter. So don’t limit yourself because their really are options! Whether you want full on sequins or something a little bit more muted, there is something out there for us all!
Here are my top 6 Christmas party outfits that you really do need in your life!
- Simply Be batwing metallic dress
This dress is gorgeous it has a lovely shape to it. It comes in both blue and silver. It’s almost like a woven knit material, so will keep you nice and warm if you’re out and about. This dress ties in at the waist to give some shape. It’s midi in length so you wouldn’t need to wear tights and would look great with killer pair of high heel sandals and a fur coat slouched over the shoulders. - Evans sequin jacket
This little sequin jacket is a simple way of incorporating a bit of glitz into your outfit. Simply dress how you want and throw on after. It’s shorter in length and so would look great with dresses and tunics. Its got a 3/4 kimono sleeve which is really flattering. Its black and so would go with almost anything. For the perfect party outfit throw this jacket on over a little black dress and some heels and you’ll be ready to roll.
- Simply Be striped kimono dress
This dress really does give Joseph’s technicolor dream coat a run for money! It’s a little on the generous size so if you can size down. I’ve seen this glitter stripe on the high street and I love it so much. The likes of Primark and Red Herring have both hosted the trend. The dress goes just below the knee, and it comes with an attached belt. The fabric itself is see through but luckily it has a stretch underlay so you can’t see through it. This dress would look great with a plain black waist belt, just to break the pattern up a little and gives it some shape.
- Asos Curve plisse midi shift dress
If I could live in plisse then I would. It’s such a great material and super flattering. I bought a plisse plain black jumpsuit last year in the boxing day sales last year for £7 and it’s honestly the most worn item I have of 2018 and the best £7 I ever spent! Plisse is such a free flowing fabric and it glistens in the light almost like a glitter but more subtle. It has a really expensive and tasteful look, so if you don’t want to go for the full on sparkle then plisse will probably be your friend. This dress goes in at the waist to give shape, its off the shoulder so for me as a pear shape it helps to make me look more hourglass by exposing my shoulders. The colour is just gorgeous and very festive, its like a berry red. It’s midi length so you wouldn’t need to wear tights and would look killer with a pair of plain black strappy sandals.
- ASOS Glamorous mesh star top
This is a great way of wearing sparkle a bit more casually with jeans or a skirt. The top is slightly see-through almost mesh and I just love it. Team with a black bralette underneath and a blazer to give it a sexy yet professional vibe.
- Evans sequin tunic
This tunic is utterly beautiful and pictures really don’t do it justice. It has like sequin disks stuck onto it in lines and rows and so when it catches the light just right its like looking at the stars twinkling in the sky. You could wear this with leggings and some knee high heeled boots with a tailored structured jacket and it would still be formal enough to wear to a Christmas party.
Don’t forget the only person stopping you from exploring the land of the sparkle is you. Why limit yourself? Make an impression and go out with a bang. Enjoy Christmas and the joy that it brings. As long as you enjoy yourself, and you feel comfortable in your skin then, honestly that’s all that matters.
