Seven Acts of Self-Love for Valentines Day

This Valentines Day I wanted to spread the love and what better way to do this than by spreading the self-love message. In true RuPaul fashion, ‘if you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else’.

So for the next 7 days leading up to Valentines Day I’m sharing 7 acts of self-love (one a day) to encourage you to proactively do the same! I’ll be sharing these on my Instagram page @chloeepeach and using the hashtag #sevenactsofselflove so you can share with me how you partake in self-love this Valentines Day. Gone are the days of Valentines just being about couples and relationships! So get involved!

Self-love has proven to be good for both your mental and physical health. It’s a positive way of thinking, and is a general regard for your own well-being and happiness. Basically, it’s putting yourself first and saying no to any criticism. Some might say that it’s a selfish way of thinking because you’re putting your own needs first, but when you don’t there’s a worry that you start to suppress your feelings and neglect your mental and physical health. Making that time for yourself and doing some self-care activities can really help change your frame of mind.

Everyone feels insecure and were all quick to pick fault with ourselves. But do you know what? Hating yourself is all just so consuming: time, effort and energy. It was Martin Luther King JR who said ‘hate is too great of a burden to bare’. When you replace the time and effort it takes to criticise yourself with loving yourself you’re able to put that time an energy into yourself and focus on things that truly matter in your life.

The self-love movement has become a big part of the plus-size community because it enables fat people to accept who they are and respect themselves in a world full of criticism. It’s accepting that you have curves, or that you have a double chin or that you’re plus-size but at the same time not letting it stop you from living your life. Being plus-size doesn’t define who you are, and you are more than just your weight. Showcasing self-love means learning how to be comfortable in the skin you’re in, being able to wear what the hell you want, totally rocking it and saying no to any criticism because you know you look fire.

So show yourself some love this Valentines day and work on you, make some time for you! You only have one skin so wear it well! You only have one life so live it well! Be kind to yourself and think about what you would tell your younger self.

How are you spreading the love for Valentines Day? Show me how you partake in self-love by using the hashtag #sevenactsofselflove and don’t forget to tag me in them @chloeepeach.
